Old Fashioned Fun

The Vintage Sports Car Club New Year Tests took place at Brooklands Museum on 26th January 2025. This rounded off a week of pretty heavy storms for the UK so it was a nice surprise to arrive at the venue with just clouds overhead, although that would change.

An entry list of 68 cars, 14 being shared, there were plenty of brave souls to entertain the spectators. Cars ranging from road going saloons, to racing specials from Edwardian to late thirties were thrown around the six tests which, as usual, involved slaloms, stopping, starting and reversing without hitting the many bollards or missing the braking point.

Cars are put to the test as well as the drivers, as demonstrated by Angelica Fuentes whose Peugeot Lockhart special got no further than the beginning of the first test she undertook. Angelica had performed quite well in the Winter tests at Bicester so this would have been a disappointment for her.

The most popular vehicle appears to be the Austin Seven in various guises, such as the “Ulster” or the “Special”. These stripped down cars were being pedalled by some familiar faces from Bicester, one such was Charlotte Garton seen here cresting the Test Hill.

With very few exceptions the cars were open topped so when the inevitable happened the drivers got soaked. The rain made for some good pictures however.

Overall a most (moist?) enjoyable way to spend a Sunday. The next VSCC event for me will be the Pomeroy Trophy at Silverstone on 22 February. See you there.

As usual a photographic archive is here:
