Back in May, I attended the Donington Historic Festival. I took lots of pictures which can be found on line here. I try to avoid posting pictures of damaged cars because, having been there myself I know how hard it can be to see the aftermath of bad driving.
The Motor Racing Legends combined Stirling Moss and RAC Woodcote Trophy race suffered from a serious incident on the first lap between the Lotus 11s of Postins/Jackson (No. 27) and Mark Cole (No. 123). The result was a severely damaged Postins Lotus, that went no further, and a less damaged Cole Lotus, which subsequently retired on lap 6.

Today I, along with many others, received the following e mail from Duncan Wiltshire, Chairman of Motor Racing Legends.
Statement from Motor Racing Legends
8th July 2024
Following a serious incident in the Motor Racing Legends Stirling Moss Trophy at the Donington Historic Festival on 4th May, a driver was disqualified from the meeting for ‘driving in a manner not compatible with general safety’ with points applied to their licence.
It is the view of Motor Racing Legends that this behaviour has no place in any of our races, indeed not at any Historic meeting. Motor Racing Legends has always striven to reflect the historical significance of the cars and to celebrate the amateur spirit of the era. Such behaviour falls far short of the minimum standards that we expect, as outlined in the Motor Racing Legends ‘Code of Racing Ethics’. As such, the driver in question will not be invited to participate in Motor Racing Legends events for the foreseeable future.

I know Masters Historic Racing and other organisers have codes of conduct and it is refreshing to see these codes being enacted. And it cannot be understated that the impact of poor driving can have on race series, whether historic or contemporary.
Knowing both Richard Postins and Mat I wish them well in their future racing endeavours, but although we say “it’s only metal” a lot of love and care goes into restoring and maintaining these cars so that we can enjoy them in action.
However, with organisers sometimes struggling to fill grids, it is refreshing to see this action from MRL and I hope it encourages more racers to enter their events in the knowledge that bad driving will be sanctioned.
