November Motorsport Highlights: Walter Hayes and VSCC

Not much happens in November, the UK weather tends to preclude outdoor activities and unless you have a heated garage, playing with cars can be a damp and cold exercise. But crucially, those conditions do provide an opportunity for hurling your vehicle at the landscape.

The Walter Hayes Trophy – Silverstone

Now in its 25th year this event attracts Formula Ford racers from all over the world, plus a few veterans. Named after Walter Hayes the journalist and Ford PR Executive who originally floated the idea of a championship for small single seaters running a Ford Kent 1600cc engine.

A grid full of these diminutive racers heading into Brooklands on the first lap under braking is a sight to behold. It’ll certainly warm the specators up!

08 November – Brands Hatch

The Kent Circuit hosts the BARC for its “into The Night” event. Two endurance races for Britcar, a race for the OT Coupe Cup with Toyo Tyres, and a multi class race for the CTCRC.

VSCC Tests and Trials

So, back to the cold and wet weather……….

If you find yourself enjoying the Lake District, the VSCC is running the 56th edition of its Lakeland Trial on 8th November.

For those of us in a more southerly location it may be worth popping over to Bicester Motion (nee Heritage) for the VSCC Winter tests. This is where mud gets sprayed, wheels drop into ruts and much splashing through puddles occurs. The tests will be held on 29th November.

Whatever you do, make sure you enjoy yourselves.
