May 2025 is a busy time in the world of Historic Motorsport in the UK, the month that really kicks off the season.

2-4 May

Donington Historic Festival

It’s a year since Aythorpe Promotions took over the reins at Motor Racing Legends. Except for the addition of the GT3 Legends series, there have been few obvious changes, but with the new season comes a new, dare I say “more professional”, approach and an expanded portfolio after the acquisition of the Historic Racing Drivers Club HRDC series.

With 17 races it is a busy schedule. Highlights will be the Pall Mall cup heading into the sunset on the Saturday evening, and the Mad Jack pre war race celebrating the 90th anniversary of the first Donington GP.

Interesting departures from earlier iterations of the festival are; the inclusion of the Formula Juniors; two stand alone U2TC races; and, the use of the full Grand Prix configuration of the circuit.

As before, the Superformance Ferrari Club Classic has two races and there will be air displays, club displays and parades throughout the weekend.

Qualifying and racing on all three days.

BBMF Spitfire

Equipe Classic Racing

Brands Hatch GP Circuit plays host to the Equipe Classic Racing series on 3-4 May.

VSCC

The Curborough Speed Trials take place on this day. More info HERE.

11 May

Leighton Buzzard Cars and Coffee

Not motorsport but a personal favourite, the monthly Cars and Coffee gathering organised by The Car Collective at the Jackson and Phillips Garage in Leighton Buzzard. Good coffee, Great cars and of course good company. From 10 am to 12 mid day.

VSCC

Again the busy VSCC has its Tour of Suffolk on this day. Also the Wiscombe Park Hillclimb. Visit the VSCC events page for full details;

17-18 May

Aston 100

The Aston Hill centenary celebration takes place on the 17th. For details click on the picture. This is the hill that gave its name to Aston Martin.

Equipe Classic Racing

The Silverstone National circuit hosts the Equipe Classic Racing series.

Classic Sports Car Club

The Classic Sports Car Club takes over Cadwell Park on this weekend.

The Chiltern Hills Rally

Returns on the 18th.

23-25 May

Historic Sports Car Club

The HSCC heads to Cadwell Park for the Wolds Trophy weekend 24th-25th.

Spa Classic

Not UK but an excellent Historic Motorsport event, over in Belgium the Spa Classic provides three days of racing at what, in my opinion, is the best circuit in the world. Although somewhat spoiled by the “Eff1” requirements it still has a magic atmosphere and the L’Arbre qui tue. More info here.

VSCC Donington

24 May is the date for yet another VSCC event which will also include an autosolo. Whilst the Dorset Tour takes place on the 25th.

31 May – 1 June

VSCC Hertfordshire Tour

This one runs on 31 May.

The 19th Masters Historic Festival

Masters Historic Racing returns to Brands Hatch for two days of historic motorsport on the GP circuit. Watching historics racing through the trees and bursting out of Clearways into Clarke Curve is always a bit special and this year there will be a demo of 1990s Formula 1 cars.

Gentleman Drivers

coventry Motor Fest

Also on this weekend, the Coventry Motor Fest takes place. This year, to celebrate 50 years of the Jaguar XJ-S, there will be a dedicated parking area for these iconic GTs. I had the honour of appearing at this event in 2014 with my Ex Works Group 1 Rover. This year I expect to be there with my XJ-S.
