An Americano With an Extra Shot Please……..

…….. was the answer I gave to the lady on the coffee kiosk at the Bicester Scramble on Sunday morning. It was cold so I chose the Americano rather than my usual Double Espresso. What has coffee got to do with anything you ask? Well it seems a number of bloggers on WordPress are coffee fans so a warm welcome to: https://www.nectaroflife.blog and https://www.weirdcoffeepeople.com who liked one of my previous posts.

As usual there was a stunning array of cars from vintage pre war Bentleys and Alvis’ to modern day Porsches, together with a sprinkling of super cars. I confess though, that the more McLarens, Lamborghinis and Ferraris et al, I see at these things, the less inclined I am to want to photograph them or even discuss them. As clever as they are, you still have to be able to drive them and where on earth can you do them justice? Perhaps a track day or a blast down an autobahn?

Every time I attend a Scramble there are more businesses opening up. It’s very much like a living museum. Imagine going to work every day in such a wonderful location.

Likewise, the quality of the classics that attend appears to be improving. This Oldsmobile appeared to be long enough to be parked simaltaneously in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire!

Note the obligatory wide angle shot.

Possibly the most underrated Jaguar is the XJS. These cars were well represented this time because, apart from mine, I found six other examples. It was Drive it Day and this one was on the HBVCA stand. It originated in Scotland and has a dealer fitted XJRs/TWR body kit. I spoke to Stuart and Ellie who recently acquired it. They went to Scotland to collect the car and drove it home to Hampshire, without problems.

I spent a pleasant 20 minutes or so, talking to @mikeshaw about the landrover project he and his mates restored. I posted some photos in the January Scramble post but it’s worth noting that https://www.britishspares.co.uk/series are a major supporter of the restoration.

So, another Scramble concluded with a drive home in the sunshine. The XJS didn’t miss a beat and for once wasn’t covered in mud from the country lanes. Was there a “stand out” car on display? Have a look here: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-7rgTvR and perhaps let me know what you think.
